The Alzheimer’s Family Center developed an Intergenerational Program, a blend of young persons and elderly clients, creating a life experience for the benefit of both. Student volunteers must be a minimum of 12 years of age, and demonstrate enthusiasm, creativity, compassion and understanding. Supervised students will interact with an elderly client during a visit, using a creative approach to provide stimulation to the client through games, songs, reminiscence or other activities, such as letter writing or creating a memory album.
Fostering a relationship between youth and elders will de-stigmatize aging, provide companionship to the senior, educate students in dealing with individuals affected by memory loss, and give them an opportunity to earn service hours in a supervised setting. Schools, youngsters are invited to participate.
