Angels for Alzheimer's
Being an Alzheimer's caregiver to a loved one is a 24-hour (perhaps 36-hour) a day job. Caregivers are under enormous stress. Their lives are statisticcaly shorter and they are more likely to contact a myriad of diseases as their immune systems are more impaired.
We, at the Alzheimer's Family Center are trying to assist caregivers in many ways. We offer in-home respite care, based on a sliding scale and ability to pay. We also offer in-home and/or office counseling, support and educational programs, as well as Volunteer companion program, an Intergenerational Program, Crisis Respite Care, Project Lifesaver Safety Program, and we provide information and referrals.
Our Center has been supplying services to Broward County residents since 1986. Government funding keeps deminishing - and yet -we have been performing more tasks. We accomplish this with the suport and generous efforts of the community as well as individuals who give time and money. The need for our programs and services is constantly increasing as people live longer. As baby boomers age; we anticipate the need for our services to skyrocket. It will become impossible to meet the demand without monetary support.
