Carol Connors

Two-time Oscar Nominated, Emmy, Golden Globes and Grammy Award Winning Singer/Songwriter, CAROL CONNORS, to perform LIVE at Alzheimer’s Black Tie Dinner & Auction Gala, March 9th

It will be a night of star-studded glamour, excitement, music and song, including a special performance by multi-talented entertainer, Carol Connors.  She is perhaps best known as the lead vocalist on The Teddy Bears’ single, “To Know Him Is To Love Him”, which was written by her bandmate Phil Spector.
Spector wrote that song specifically to showcase Connors’ singing voice; the record quickly reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1958.  Immediately upon hearing the song, 23 year old Elvis Presley, who was stationed in Germany, requested that his aides contact her. His wish for a meeting was granted upon his return to the US in March, 1960; a serious relationship between them followed, which lasted several years

Connors writes the songs the whole world screens.  She co-wrote the theme song “Gonna Fly Now”, from the film Rocky, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. Other songwriting credits include the Rip Chords’ 1964 classic hit “Hey Little Cobra”, plus the 1980 Billy Preston/Syreeta Wright duet “With You I’m Born Again”.  Carol Connors sang the theme to the cult film, Orca, called “We Are One”.  She has been in the spotlight for many prestigious events; she was selected to sing for President Bush’s inauguration, both the first and the second.   A strong activist, Connors went to Washington, D.C. where she conducted a 117-piece orchestra at The Kennedy Center to the Rocky theme to raise money for the “Wounded Warriors”.

She contributed to such diverse projects as Looking for Mr. Goodbar, Butterfly, Fade to Black, The Earthling, The Rescuers – which earned her a second Oscar nomination – and The Pianist, and co-wrote themes to television’s Lifestyles with Robin Leach and Star Search.  A Golden Palm Star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars was dedicated to her in 1999. In 2000, John F. Kennedy University (San Francisco) awarded her an honorary doctorate in fine arts.

The Alzheimer’s Family Center is thrilled to have Ms. Connors attend and perform at our Black Tie Gala “What a Wonderful World” on Saturday, March 9th at Woodland Country Club in Tamarac.  The elegant evening will consist of fine dining, both silent & live auctions, dancing to the sounds of The Fabulons and a stirring tribute to Honorees, Greta & Herb Silver.  The Silvers are being recognized for their many years of dedication to the Center; donating both time and money to the agency and working tirelessly to assist the seniors of our community.   Master of Ceremong duties will be flawlessly handled by radio personality, Jeff Martin of Lite 101.5 FM.
